PROCEDURE FOR NDT CLASSROOM ON-LINE TRAINING
It is the purpose of this procedure to cover the essential elements of the on-line training program referred to herein as NDT Classroom. This program consists of seven (7) individual subjects; Introduction to Nondestructive Testing, Visual Testing, Penetrant Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Radiographic Testing and Ultrasonic Testing. Course outlines have been developed from the ANSI/ASNT Standard CP 105 which the on-line presentations follow. Each subject will be offered separately and will include periodic quizzes and an end of course final examination. A certificate of completion will be issued to all who satisfactorily complete each subject.
Candidates will register for the course desired and payment will be made on-line. The fees for each course will be:
Introduction to Nondestructive Testing $495.00
Visual Testing I/II $695.00
Penetrant Testing I/II $795.00
Magnetic Particle Testing I/II $795.00
Radiographic Testing I $695.00
Radiographic Testing II $895.00
Ultrasonic Testing I/II $895.00
Once enrolled, the student will be able to log on with a unique password and the username. There will be a security feature to assure the individual taking the training is in fact, the person who is enrolled. The time spent taking the course after log-on will be precisely tracked and records maintained of the on-line activity. The final examination will track every answer given by the learner.
The periodic quizzes relating to various key subjects will be monitored and questions answered incorrectly will require a review of that particular subject to provide a means of review and understanding of the correct answer. The end of course final examination will not have this feature but instead will require the student to re-take that portion of the training where the examination indicated a lack of understanding.
CREDIT FOR TIME
The recommended training hours as contained in SNT-TC-1A will be fulfilled by completing the following:
READING AND SELF STUDY
Reading assignments will be prepared and provided to each student with a list of references and books relative to the subjects. Self-study will be strongly encouraged which will add to the overall training time to be credited. It will also better prepare the student for the practical lab/’hands-on” session to follow. It will be the responsibility of the student to maintain a log of self-study time. It is recommended that the applicable Level III be involved and sign off the assignments as completed. This should become a part of the training records for use with subsequent certifications.
HANDS-ON PRACTICAL TRAINING
Recognized NDT training schools and laboratories can apply for and be approved as sources for the practical “hands-on” training which is necessary to satisfy the recommendations of SNT-TC-1A. (NOTE – This will require further discussions by TSG/FCS and the development of an approval process, possible audit, fees, etc.). Ideally, in addition to the guidelines for conducting the practical training portion, there should also be a series of lab exercises describing the expectations of the lab, equipment required, personnel and support staff.
FOLLOW-UP DURING AND AFTER COMPLETION OF PROGRAM
There will be a process to provide student contact with the instructor in the event that there are questions. An on-line “comments” form allowing the student send comments or ask questions after the course is completed is being considered. This is preferable to having the students contact the instructor directly via phone or email. An “ask the instructor” link, which will send questions to NDTclassroom will be added. The administrator can then either direct the learner to a “Frequently Asked Questions” section or forward the question to the appropriate instructor for reply. This will be evaluated. Every student will be added to a contact list to receive future offerings, etc.
Every student will receive and acknowledge a disclaimer stating that the on-line program is not intended to “certify” but only to present the training subjects as contained in ANSI/ASNT CP- 105. The disclaimer will also state that passing the course does not guarantee that future examinations (including those to be used for certification) will also be passed.
