EDDY CURRENT TESTING (ECT) IS A COMMONLY USED AND VERSATILE ELECTROMAGNETIC NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING (NDT) TECHNIQUE.
ECT uses electromagnetic induction to detect and indicate surface and sub-surface flaws in conductive materials, including both ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic materials. It can also be used to detect coating thickness.
SPECIFIC APPLICATION AREAS INCLUDE in-service inspection of tubing at nuclear and fossil fuel power utilities, at chemical and petrochemical plants, on nuclear submarines, and in air conditioning systems.
